Kohima, August 3 (MExN): The significance of the involvement of educational and social welfare departments in spreading awareness was underscored during the meeting of  Kohima District Task Force (DTF) for Immunisation held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Shanavas on August 3.

The meeting discussed various initiatives including the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI), Measle Rubella (MR) Elimination Drive, Routine Immunisation (RI), and National Deworming Day (WDD).

At the meeting World Health Organisation (WHO) representative Dr Sheila presented a comprehensive overview of IMI 5.0, focusing on its rationale and strategies.

Addressing vaccination coverage disparities, she emphasised the need to raise awareness in rural areas and address communication challenges.

Updates were provided on the MR Elimination Drive, RI, and WDD by the District Programme Officer (UIP/RCH) Dr Khrievilhou Nakhro

The meeting also discussed the ongoing efforts to eliminate MR by December 2023 and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between departments for success, the State DIPR informed.

Among others, it underscored the significance of involving educational and social welfare departments in spreading awareness, it said.

As the IMI 5.0 aims to target under-vaccinated children and pregnant women through multiple sessions from August to October, flexibility in timing has been incorporated to ensure maximum coverage, it added.

DC Shanavas also suggested adding a National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) representative to the DTF for Immunisation (DTF) to enhance outreach efforts and urged for close coordination and regular reviews for a successful MR Elimination Drive.
