Students and teachers of Kohima Law College conducted a social work at the college campus on February 12.
KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): The Kohima Law College (KLC) conducted a social work on February 12 to promote dignity of labour.
A press release informed that all the students and teachers of the college took part in the cleaning of the college compound, class rooms and more importantly the construction of toilets with cement, sand, stone dust, bricks and also some carpentry works.
Assistant Professor, Kezhokhoto Savi, who is also in-charge of students’ welfare, said that “dignity of labour is the philosophy that all types of jobs are respected equally, and no occupation is considered superior and none of the jobs should be discriminated on any basis.”
“Regardless of whether one’s occupation involves physical works or mental labour it is held that the job deserves respect,” Savi stated. He added that the social work fully involved physical work and a majority of the students had “the first time experience in doing the construction works with cement, sand, bricks, etc.”
“In the past the local people as indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland believed that only the non local skilled/labour can do the construction works with cement/sand/bricks, etc. But today it is high time the local people must learn how to construct our own houses, bridges, etc involving our own physical works,” he stated.
