KOHIMA, JANUARY 31 (MExN): The Office of the Executive Engineer, Department of Power, has announced that an extensive disconnection drive targeting defaulting electricity consumers will begin from February 2025 under the Kohima Electrical Division.
This drive will include disconnections of consumers who have failed to pay their electricity bills, including Government Offices, SPM Villages, and those with illegal or unauthorized connections.
All consumers, both urban and rural, have been urged to settle their outstanding bills as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience or disruption of services.
Additionally, the public has been warned against engaging in illegal activities such as hooking, tampering with energy meters, or bypassing meters. Such actions are considered serious offenses under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, and may result in penalties, including fines, imprisonment, or both.
Consumers have also been reminded that the non-receipt of electricity bills does not absolve them of their responsibility to pay for the energy consumed. The Department has advised all consumers to check with their local office if they have not received their bills.
In cases of discrepancies or other issues with their bills, consumers have been asked to visit the respective SDO (E) No I, II, III offices for clarification and rectification. The Department of Power emphasized that it is in the interest of all consumers to resolve any outstanding issues promptly to avoid further complications.
