Kohima Press Club’s Treasurer Rüülhoutuonuo Theünuo passes away

Nagaland media fraternity, CM  mourn demise 

Kohima, January 20 (MExN):  The treasurer of Kohima Press Club (KPC) Rüülhoutuonuo Theünuo passed away on January 19.  Theünuo, 49, died while undergoing treatment for prolonged illness at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), Dimapur, Wednesday night.

Starting her career as a news reader in AIR, Kohima Station, and she became the Treasurer of Kohima Press Club (KPC) and was re-elected as executive member for three different tenures from 2012 till her untimely demise. 

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of late Theünuo was laid to rest this afternoon at Rüsoma village.

Alice Yhoshu, President Kohima Press Club; Vibeilietuo Kets, President 11th Northern Angami A/C II NDPP;  Vimhalie Pienyu, Chairman Kitsubozou Panchayat; Vevosalü Terhase, President Kitsubozou Women Organization and others spoke at the funeral service.

The funeral rite was conducted by Rev James C Neikhrienyü, Senior Pastor Baptist Mission Church while it was led by Seyiesetuo Solo, an associate pastor of the Church.

Condolences pour in 
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the media fraternity in the state have mourned the demise of late Theünuo.
In his condolences, Chief Minister Rio termed late Theünuo was a “multi-talented woman, with wide ranging interests spanning across journalism, news reading and politics.” She was a prominent leader of the Women Wing of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), he said. 

“Her death is a great loss for the Angami community, particularly for the people of Northern Angami-11 Assembly Constituency; and the void created by her untimely demise would be difficult to fill, Rio stated. “However, her many good works in the field of journalism and public service would continue to inspire us for a long time to come,” he added. 

The president and members of KPC also mourned the demise of one of its brightest members, who held the post of treasurer till the time of her untimely demise.

Late Theünuo had served KPC as executive member for three different tenures- as Treasurer from 2012 to 2014; she was re-elected to the same post for the tenure 2014 to 2016; and because of her dedication, sincerity and genuine concern for the press fraternity, she was elected her again for the third term in 2019, KPC informed.

“She was an amazing human being, who selflessly and diligently worked behind the scenes and made a lasting impression on everybody who knew her,” it said.  

In her death, the KPC has lost an anchor, a great mentor and a wonderful friend, whose positive energy, resilience, hard work and cheerfulness will continue to inspire us, it added. 

The KPC further paid tribute to late Theünuo for “showing us how to smile and to embrace life each day as it comes” and stated that with broken hearts the Club celebrate her life today.

“Words are insufficient to express our sadness over her passing but we pray that God will grant her family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the KPC added. 

Expressing sadness over death, the Nagaland Press Association (NPA) also noted that late Theünuo’s “demise has left us devastated, but she will always been remembered for her contribution to the press fraternity.”

“In this hour of grief the NPA conveys heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Almighty God to grant solace to them. Also pray that God grant everlasting peace to the departed soul to rest in peace,” read a condolence note from NPA President H Chishi. 

 “The media fraternity in Nagaland has lost a sharp, hardworking, and enthusiastic member with her passing,” the Dimapur Press Club (DPC) stated in a message. 

“DPC extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family at this difficult time. May God give her family and loved ones the strength to cope with this unrecoverable loss, and may her soul rest in peace!,” it added. 

In a condolence message, the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Nagaland stated that Theünuo was a hard working and efficient lady who had empathy for her colleagues. 

“She worked tirelessly behind the scene, her genuine care and love for her acquaintances will always be remembered,” it said. 

In her demise, the State and the press fraternity have lost a dedicated and a hardworking journalist who pushed for a robust free media and reaching out to people in the villages especially among the Tenyidie speaking community, stated the message from DIPR Director, Er Z Tokishe Sema.
