KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 1 (MExN): Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, marked World Wetlands Day with the launch of its Green Initiative Campaign, highlighting sustainability and environmental responsibility through a special program on campus on February 1. The event, organized in collaboration with the Nature’s Club, focused on waste management and wetland conservation.

The program was chaired by Tewe Medo, coordinator of the Nature’s Club, and featured an address by Assistant Professor and Green Initiative Leader Shevito Theyo, who introduced the “Zero Waste Wednesday” campaign. He underscored the college’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting eco-conscious practices. “Launching this campaign on World Wetlands Day symbolizes the important connection between responsible waste management and the protection of our vital wetland ecosystems,” Theyo said.

Kousal Kumar Pandit, Secretary of the Nature’s Club, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the significance of wetlands in filtering water, mitigating floods, and addressing climate change. “Wetlands are vital to maintaining the health of our planet,” he stated, urging collective action to protect these ecosystems.

Attendees took a pledge to support the Green Initiative and work towards a zero-waste campus. The Nagaland Pollution Control Board extended its support to the observance, while the Principal and Vice Principal of Kohima Science College, along with faculty members and students, participated in the event.

Kohima Science College reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainability through education, awareness, and action, ensuring environmental conservation remains a core priority.
