Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The volunteers and ward co-ordinator of Ward 17 trained under ‘100 days Smart City special initiative campaign on sanitation’ organized a cleanliness drive in Forest Colony, Kohima on August 31.

The volunteers and co-ordinators of all 19 wards under Kohima city are currently collecting sample data on household level waste management by visiting houses in their respective wards. They are also assisting the municipal waste collectors in educating the public on basic waste segregation when they come to deposit their dustbins in the garbage trucks.

“This will hopefully encourage all household to practice waste segregation at the household level and go a long way in systematic waste management of the city,” Joint CEO, Kohima Smart City stated in a press release.

While there are reports of a good number of households who segregate waste and practice home composting, the practice is unknown by many households and therefore not practiced, the Joint CEO added.

In this connection the Kohima Smart City is holding consultations and conducting seminars with all key stakeholders so that information and good practices can be propagated through the organisations for a concerted effort towards waste management.
