Konyak legislators ridiculed over road bumps

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27 (MExN): with a view  to inspect developmental work-implementation especially in civil health and educational sector, a team of Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) headed by its President, Y.P. Achillio reached Mon on Friday. The Federation stated that they will pay surprise visit to concerned parts of Mon district and learn about the ‘real prevailing situation’ in a week-long campaign.

A release stated that the team were surprised at the pintable road condition at Mon town and expressed dissatisfaction at the Konyak Legislators and contractors for the nightmare they caused in the middle of the town called district headquarter. “Our vehicle got stuck up in the road in the middle of the town and wallowed there for some time until sympathetic public helped us out,” the ENSF official stated in a release. The release also stated that the President was enraged over this mishap, blaming the legislators and concerned contractors “insolent and shameless people who would not care to work with determination and honesty for their own people even though such amount were given by the centre.”

The Federation asked “where is 45 crores given to make Mon a better place?” and strongly condemned that “by observing the present  road status  of Mon it is beyond doubt that money has not been utilized properly” and further added that  the work is still at initial stage with only widening even though two years  have passed.

The team also observed that on the process of road widening, lots of other existing developmental works have been damaged. “We can  clearly  see  water  pipes, telephone cables, electric poles etc damaged and mended causing immense  public miseries and losses  in the name of development,” they said  and added  that a  slight shower is enough  to make the whole of Mon a paddy field making  it impossible for daily activities to  go on.

While sympathizing with the untold miseries suffered by Mon people, the Federation questioned “the poor and slow work execution at Mon” by the contractors concerned. The Federation demanded the contractors concerned to immediately approach the ENSF official at Mon within this week with detailed documents pertaining to work order for proper discussion and speeding up things and further stated that the Federation will not let its people suffer at the hands of the few and added that they will do anything to bring justice.

The Federation strongly accused Konyak legislators saying that they were shocked to understand the selfishness of the MLAs for their own constituencies, their vote bank, while neglecting the district headquarters, ‘the crown of the District.’ The Federation while appreciating at least something done, demanded the complete black topping of Mon Town roads before October this year failing which, it will take its own course of action and will even invite the Central government to check and evaluate the status of work implementation of such a huge and generous amount which rightfully belongs to the general public.
