Konyak Orgs declare ‘war against drug abuse’

Mon, September 4 (MExN): The Konyak Frontal Organisations, under the banner of Konyak Union today gave out a clarion call to declare ‘War against Drug Abuse.’

This resolution was adopted on September 4, during a joint meeting of the Konyak Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Konyak Women’s Organisation (KNSK), Konyak Baptist Churches’ Organisation KBBB etc at the Office of the Konyak Union, Mon.

The Konyak Union in a press release stated the meeting deliberated on the drug problem in the district and took into account that the human resource of the Konyak community was being adversely affected due to this menace.

The discussion chalked out a systematic and multi-pronged operation plan for its fight against drug abuse by talking both the ‘Demand’ as well as the ‘Supply’ aspects of the problem.

The meeting resolved to direct all the Village Councils under Mon district to plan and carry out treatment activities for the drug/opium addicts and take action against non-compliant members.

A Committee on Drug Abuse Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP) was formed to provide technical support and logistics for the treatment programme and all necessary technical support for the joint operation.

The Churches were also requested to step in with counseling and rehabilitation of drug users while the student bodies and the Women’s Organisation were asked to check the supply or the illegal substances.

The Konyak Union further directed anyone involved in consuming or peddling of the illegal drugs to desist immediately, lest stringent action would follow starting with imprisonment.

The union also informed that action would also be initiated against anyone attempting to bail an offender found with opium or other illegal drugs.
