DIMAPUR, AUGUST 20 (MExN): In the backdrop of the reported shootout between the NSCN-K and Para Commandos of the Indian Army on August 19, the Konyak Union, Myanmar (KUM) has appealed for restraint. The KUM, in a press release, stated that the civilian population along the Indo-Myanmar border are facing untold hardship in the midst of unending armed confrontations.
Stating that villagers in the borderland have been suffering for the past many decades oblivious to the imagination of the outside world, the KUM said that the people along the border are helplessly wedged between the Indian security forces and the Myanmarese Army and separatists. The August 19 incident, it stated, was only one of many other similar incidents. While highlighting the constant harassments in the form of search operations conducted by the Indian security forces and the Myanmar government soldiers, the KUM said that life has become intolerable. It further mentioned three villages, namely – Throilu, Hoyat and Nyaching as the most affected and neglected.
