Dimapur, Jan 16 (MExN): Konyak Union strongly reiterates its stand that the two Konyak youths killed by the NSCN-IM on January 13, are civilians training as mechanics at NK Garage in Kohima. The union in a strong statement made clear that the claims of the NSCN-IM are not accepted.
They had no connection, whatsoever, with any faction and Christian locals of their neighborhood will bear witness to the false justification, stated the KU through its President Tingnyei Konyak and General Secretary Nawang Konyak in a rejoinder. The claim of ‘Brig’ Phungthing of the NSCN (IM) that “both had confessed during interrogation that they belonged to NSCN (K)” is completely misleading, it stated. “He claimed that one even admitted to having participated in the killing of ‘Sgt Maj’ Moa Phom is the most absurd thing in the world. NSCN-IM’s claim that both were eliminated during a ‘reconnaissance operation’ is false because there was no operation either around Super Market area or Paramedical Bridge area. They were emotively abducted and murdered just because they happened to be Konyaks, the KU stated.
The claim that the “duo challenged them” is another parody, said the Konyak Union. “…because how can mere civilians challenge an armed gang? Where is, or are, the arms that the innocent boys possessed while they challenged the IM gang as they claim? Above all their false identification that the two boys were ‘Sgt Maj’ Pungthing, son of Kraya and ‘Pvt’ Sophonpa, son of Lolyang of Shikochung village is just ridicule. There are no names of people and villages as those in the entire Konyak villages which has more than 121 villages. Konyaks know and also let all the Nagas know that those two boys were intently preplanned since they were Konyaks” the Konyak Union added.
