Neiba Kronu, Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture with Sharad Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture.

DIMAPUR, APRIL 19 (MExN): Neiba Kronu, the Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture recently met Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture and apprised him on the need for more infrastructural development and the need to revive the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) in Medziphema. He also raised the issues and problems faced by farmers in the North East under the National Horticulture Board NHB Schemes, where because of certain norms, “growers are not getting the benefit.”
A press note informed that he also met the Director of NHB and discussed the same for rectification of the funding pattern. It also stated that Kronu called on the Rubber Board of India (RBI), Tea Board, Coffee Board, and Coconut Board (CBI), where the technician demonstrated the use of various products and how they are cultivated. The note informed that this was done to catch up on the booming horticulture industry.
Kronu then met the Secretary for AYUSH, Government of India where discussions were held with the National Medicinal Plant Board on the requirements to encourage farmers in the state to grow medicinal plants.
It was informed that earlier, after taking over the charge of the department, Kronu along with the Horticulture Director & Mission Director, Watienla Jamir and senior officers met the Horticulture Commissioner of India, Dr Gorakh Singh along with Sushil Kumar Singla, Director for Horticulture. The horticulture team visited the Institute of Horticulture Technology (IHT), Noida and interacted with the Director (Technical), Sandeep Sudan of Saveer Biotech Limited for discussions on hi-tech and Green house technology in cultivation of various horticultural crops.
