KSCJ hosts first inter-collegiate tournament

Kohima, August 7 (MExN): Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, hosted its first-ever Inter-Collegiate Tournament 2026 on August 6, featuring men’s basketball, women’s basketball and men’s futsal.

The tournament brought together student athletes from Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Mokokchung, with 11 guest colleges participating. They included Tetso College, St Joseph’s College Jakhama, Alder College, Nagaland University School of Agricultural Sciences, Capital College of Higher Education, Sazolie College, Patkai Christian College, Oriental College, Fazl Ali College, Kohima College and Baptist College.

The inaugural programme was held at the KSCJ Auditorium and chaired by Moarenba I Imchen. An invocation was offered by Kivipu Jimomi, Chaplain, CCF Jotsoma.

In his welcome address, Vipito Achumi said the tournament was intended to go beyond competition.

"Our vision for this tournament extends beyond competition. We believe it is a celebration of friendship, teamwork, discipline, respect, and true sportsmanship," he said.

Principal of Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, Dr Temjenwabang, in his special address, expressed hope that the inaugural tournament would lead to further inter-college interactions and collaborations.

He encouraged the participating teams to compete with integrity and determination while upholding the spirit of sportsmanship, and extended his best wishes to all the teams.

Dr Temjenwabang formally declared the tournament open, followed by the ceremonial kick-off. The Games & Sports Secretary of KSCSU administered the oath of sportsmanship to the participants.

The programme concluded with the KSCJ College Anthem performed by the KSCJ Choir.

The college said the tournament marks a milestone in its history and reflects its effort to promote sportsmanship, leadership and stronger bonds among educational institutions through healthy competition.
