Imphal Febuary 28 (NNN): The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) has suspended its indefinite 'public blockade' because of the appeal made by the Kuki students in view of the class X and clas XII examinations in Manipur. However, the KSDC slammed the government for the alleged militarisation in the Kuki inhabited areas in Manipur to escort the Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) Car Rally from Jiribam-Phaitol of Tamenglong district to Moreh, Chandel district.
"The government, instead of addressing the legitimate demand of the Kukis had promulgated Section 144 CrPC and dispersed the peaceful protesters with iron fist, which is totally against the principle of the 'father of the nation', Mahatma Gandhi and fundamental principle of the largest democratic country, India,"KSDC stated. "The development and progress of the region lies in peaceful cooperation of the local populace. Kukis are not against development and progress but it should not be at the cost of our rights. The KSDC will continue our struggle for the Kuki solution."
The Kuki State Demand Committee said it had decided to suspend the ongoing public blockade on all the life lines of present Manipur inhabited by the Kukis from 7:30 pm, February 28, 2013 as appealed to the committee by the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO),
The executive committee of KSDC also resolved to launch another course of agitation. KSDC further expressed gratitude to all who stood with them throughout the public blockade and appealed to "remain with us as we still have way to go, till our demand is achieved."
