Construction of a temporary suspension bridge over the Dhansiri River at Kuda Village (Nagarjan) has been set into motion after the existing 90-year-old dilapidated bridge was closed down due to erosion of its foundation.
On Saturday, villagers under the aegis of the Kuda Village Council (KVC) undertook a mass social work to construct approach roads on both sides of the proposed suspension bridge.
The district Deputy Commissioner, Kesonyu Yhome, who also inspected the construction of the approach roads told media persons that the state government would provide finance and also technical support for construction of the suspension bridge.
KVC chairman, Achübu Meruno, said the completion of the suspension bridge (only for pedestrians) would depend on how fast the department and government is able to procure materials. The chairman informed presently pillars and two bundles of 25mm steel wire have been procured.
Meruno said around 400 Kuda residents are taking part in construction of the approach roads and thanked the landowners Savi Liegise and Tsobi Dolie for giving permission to build the approach roads in their respective lands.
Meruno also said it is the “urgent desire” of residents on both sides of the river that the government and district administration construct a seasonal bamboo bridge over the rivers for small vehicles to ply.
