Naga web-portal Kuknalim.com was awarded The Manthan Award on 22nd September, 2007 in a glittering ceremony at New Delhi. The prestigious award is given to individuals and organizations that have used Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovatively for grassroots empowerment and Development of the society and country as a whole. Kuknalim.com was represented by its co-founder Yan Murry.
The Digital Empowerment Foundation in Association with Department of Information Technology (GoI), American Indian Foundation and United Nations Development Programme jointly organized the Award this year.
39 winners were chosen from 348 nominations in 15 categories. Nominees were from 27 states including 3 from Nagaland. Kuknalim.com won in the e-culture category. The Naga web-portal was the only awardee from North East India.
Kuknalim.com was founded in 2001 by Yan Murry and Jeremy Taylor. Today the Naga portal receives over 3 million hits a month and has over 7,700 registered members. It is a non-profit venture aimed at bringing Nagas from around the world in one platform. Besides the many services and features it provides for its users, kuknalim.com also takes part in charity works and aims at promoting Naga talents and culture.
