KV Pusa urges leaders to maintain morality in politics

Kohima, April 29 (MExN): With the Congress in disarray for quite some time in Nagaland, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Member, KV Pusa has urged the party leaders to maintain decorum and morality of politics.

Pusa, who was also President of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), said people who do not respect decorum and morality of politics should not talk of decorum in the party, a press release received here stated. He asked PCC leaders to put heads together and work for welfare of the party rather than weakening it. He said strengthening the party with cohesiveness among the party leaders will deliver goods to the people.

Pusa further maintained it was high time for the Congress leaders in the state to garner respect and support from the people, “otherwise it will be better to pack up things and leave for home to let other take up the mantle of the party.” Appealing to all the party leaders to “work for the welfare of our people instead of indulging in mudslinging and petty politics,” the Congress leader added, “I wish party leaders maintain highest order of morality in politics.”

Reacting to PCC’s allegation that while he was Chairman of Political Affairs Committee (PAC), 8 party lawmakers were misguided and defected to Naga People’s Front (NPF), Pusa said he was “annoyed” by such unfounded allegation and asked PCC to substantiate its claim. He said any decision taken by the PAC was collective and there was no hidden decision, adding even people who were accusing were members of the PAC then. Eight MLAs defected to NPF last year after the PCC had initiated disqualification proceedings against them.

He said shifting blame on him for defection of the eight MLAs was just a “figment of imagination” as all eight legislators were matured and experienced politicians. “I as a chairman of PAC or Members have nothing to do with the defection of MLAs. It is their own decision,” he reiterated.   Pusa said during his tenure as Chairman of PAC, there were series of meetings and deliberations on various issues which were confronting the state, including Naga political problem, economy and development and that nothing was discussed behind the curtain.

As Chairman of PAC, Pusa stated, he cannot take unilateral decision but it was only through the collective wisdom of the PAC members. The current PCC President, K. Therie was also member of the PAC when Pusa was the Chairman, it was added.

He also rebutted the PCC’s allegation that he was working in contrary to policies and ideology of the Indian National Congress (INC) and asked the latter to substantiate their claims. He said whatever discussed and deliberated by the PAC was always brought to the public domain.

On PCC’s statement that Pusa’s words has compromised the party ideology and principles and that the AICC seriously viewed him, the AICC Member asked the PCC to point out words which have gone against ideology and principles of the party. He reminded the PCC that decision to suspend or expel him is not in the hands of the PCC but vested with the AICC President, Sonia Gandhi. He described Sonia as a seasoned and matured politician who would not be easily carried away by conspiracy.
