KVK Peren distributes seeds to farmers in Beisumpuikam

Peren, June 16 (MExN): ICAR-KVK Peren, Jalukie in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for NER, Nagaland centre, Jharnapani conducted seed distribution programme at Beisumpuikam village with selected farmers on June 14.

KVK Peren in a press release stated that during the programme, package of practices of lowland rice cultivation was discussed by Dr Patu K Zeliang, ACTO, PBG KVK Peren for Seed production of lowland paddy RCM-9 to meet the demand for seeds. While under oil seed promotion, cultivation practices of Sesame were discussed for increasing production and productivity by Dr Harendra Verma, Scientist, PBG, ICAR Jharnapani and his team members Sakuonuo Theunuo, SRF and Imtijungla Jamir, SRF.

Under the programme, two quintals of lowland paddy RCM-9 and three high yielding varieties of sesame were distributed to the farmers to cover 10 hectares along with plant protection chemicals. 

Chairman Beisumpuikam village, Tadibe related how farmers in the village were cultivating rice only for grain purpose before and due to low-income moved to mustard cultivation for higher income, then to Sesame which was more profitable compared to mustard and lastly- Colocasia, which he found gave them the highest profit. 

Therefore, he expressed his happiness with the improved and high yielding varieties of rice and sesame provided by the ICAR for increasing their incomes and livelihood upliftment. Village council members along with paddy and oilseed cultivator representatives attended the programme.
