KVK Tuensang conducts training on value addition of ginger

Kohima, November 26 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra-TSG, Nagaland organized a pre-season training under frontline demonstration on the topic “Ginger candy making – A value added product for sustainable livelihood” on November 22 sponsored by ATMA, Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, Government of Nagaland.


The main objective of the programme was to train the SHGs of Tuensang district on Ginger candy making for sustaining their livelihood.


As ginger is a perishable product and have a very low shelf-life, so value addition in ginger could be a viable alternative which will fetch remunerative price to the growers.


The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr Shisarenla Aier, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), KVK-TSG, while invocation was pronounced by Chubasangla Chang. Seveto Nyekha, Programme Assistant, KVK- Tuensang delivered the welcome address.


Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK-Tuensang gave a brief remark on the importance of value added product, its manufacturing and marketing. Zhohu Puro, Food Safety Officer (FSO), CMO-Tsg, also emphasized on the importance of FSSAI registration and licencing of different value added products and the penalties involved for defaulters under the act.


Yanger I Kichu delivered the vote of thanks. During the technical sessions, resource person Dr Shisarenla Aier, SMS (Horticulture), trained the participants on Ginger candy making and King Chilli pickle making followed by hands-on demonstration on packaging, labelling and sealing of products. Chubasangla Chang, an SHG member shared her experiences on Wild Apple candy making. 


Altogether 30 participants from 3 SHGs participated in the programme. As a start up for the SHGs, utensils, packaging materials, sealers, weighing balance and other items were distributed to all the participants.
