ICAR-KVK Wokha conducted a five-day skill training programme on post-harvest management of horticultural crops for tribal SHGs and FPOs under the Tribal-Sub Plan (TSP) initiative.
Wokha, June 16 (MExN): ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha conducted a five-day skill training programme on post-harvest management of horticultural crops for tribal Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) under the Tribal-Sub Plan (TSP) initiative.
The programme, held from June 8 to 12, was aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship and establishing mini food processing laboratories among tribal communities in the district.
A total of 32 participants, including SHG members, rural youth, and women, attended the training, which covered both theoretical sessions and hands-on practical demonstrations.
Technical sessions included lectures on post-harvest management, maturity indices of fruits and vegetables, packaging technologies, and income generation through food processing industries, delivered by Megokhono Meyase, CTO/SMS Horticulture, and Dr B L Mhalo Tungoe.
Practical demonstrations were conducted on low-fat banana chips, dehydrated banana candy, banana flour, green chilli sauce, soy milk, and soy paneer by Thungchano S Ezung, Programme Assistant (Food Technology). Demonstrations on fruit candies from locally available fruits like plum and peach, as well as mushroom processing, were led by Deepa Singh, SMS (Home Science). A full-day session on bakery processing was also held.
The training was conducted under the guidance of Course Director Dr Sandeep Deshmukh, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Wokha.
Certificates were distributed during the valedictory session by Dr Khumdemo Ezung, CTO (Agronomy), marking the completion of the programme.
