KVYO announces 67th KVSA Meet 2026

Rs. 13 lakh set aside as total prize money

The Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) has announced that it will be hosting the 67th Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) Meet 2026 from January 10 to 16.

Addressing a press conference here on January 5, KVYO president Er Medozhazo Rutsa informed that the meet will be held under the theme “Kevimerü” with the Great Indian Barbet as mascot.

The theme “Kevimerü” has been chosen to unite everyone in Kohima village and to expect good things from the people, he said.

The Great Indian Barbet, with its vibrant colours and distinctive call, is chosen as the mascot of the 67th KVSA Meet 2026 to symbolise energy, resilience and harmony with nature.

Commonly found in the forests around Kohima, it reflects the deep connection between sports, environment, and community life. Just as the barbet’s call echoes across the hills, the KVSA Meet brings together athletes and spectators in a spirit of unity, strength, and celebration of local identity, Er. Rutsa informed.

The opening ceremony will take place on January 10 from 10: 00 AM onwards at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground).

Athletics will take place at Indira Gandhi Stadium and Kohima Local Ground while Cricket will be held at Meriema Village Ground, Football at Indira Gandhi Stadium, volleyball and basketball at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Ground Kohima, Table Tennis and Badminton at State Indoor Stadium, Kohima, shooting at Ziekezou Indoor Stadium, Kohima village and Wrestling at Khuochiezie.
Wrestling will take place on January 16.

Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, advisor School Education & SCERT will be the chief host  at the opening ceremony on January 10 while MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso will be the guest of honour on January 16.
The 67th KVSA meet will witness around 700 athletes from four khel of Kohima Village (Lhisemia (L Khel), Dapfütsumia  (D Khel), Pfuchatsumia (P Khel) and Tsütuonuomia (T Khel).

They will vie for top honour for 53 Gold medals, 53 Silver and 28 Bronze.

The KVYO extended invitation to all the citizens of Kohima to witness this mega sports event.

Prize money
In athletic events, the Gold medallist for both men and women will carry Rs. 7000 each while the silver and bronze medallists will pocket Rs. 5000 and Rs. 3000 respectively.
Cross Country (Individual): Gold- Rs. 7000,  Silver- Rs. 5000, Silver- Rs. 3000
Cross Country (Team). Gold- Rs, 10,000, Silver- Rs. 5000
4X100 relay race: Gold- Rs. 10,000. Silver- Rs. 5000
4X400 relay race (Men): Gold: Rs. 10,000. Silver- Rs. 5000
4X400 relay race (Mix): Gold: Rs. 10,000. Silver- Rs. 5000
Football: Gold- Rs. 40,000. Silver- Rs. 25,000
Cricket: Gold- Rs. 40,000. Silver- Rs. 25,000
Volleyball: Gold- Rs. 30,000. Silver- Rs. 15,000
Basketball: Gold- Rs. 30,000. Silver- Rs. 15,000
Badminton (Team): Gold. Rs. 20,000. Silver- Rs. 15,000
Badminton (Single): Gold- Rs. 7000, Silver- Rs. 5000
Badminton (Double): Gold- Rs. 10,000, Silver- Rs. 5000
Badminton (Mix Doubles): Gold- Rs. 10,000, Silver- Rs. 5000
Table Tennis (Team): Gold. Rs. 20,000. Silver- Rs. 15,000
Table Tennis (Single): Gold. Rs. 7000. Silver- Rs. 5000
Table Tennis (Double): Gold. Rs. 10,000. Silver- Rs. 5000
Shooting: Gold- Rs. 7000, Silver- Rs. 5000, Bronze- Rs. 3000
Wrestling (Individual): Gold- Rs. 60,000. Silver- Rs. 40,000, Bronze- Rs. 30,000, 4th position- Rs. 20,000
Wrestling (Team): Gold- Rs 30,000, Silver- Rs. 20,000
The individual champion in athletic for both men and women will pocket Rs. 20,000 each.
Those athletes who create record break will also get Rs. 10,000 each, KVYO informed.
