Dimapur, Jan 10 (DIPR): The problem of child labor is an area of special concern for both the Central and the State Government. The National Child Policy was formulated with the basic objective of suitably rehabilitating working children within the age group of 14 years and that they are withdrawn from employment as to reduce child labor in areas where there is a known concentration of child laborers.
The Labor Department, Government of Nagaland has been educating various voluntary organizations to take up child labor awareness programmes by way of providing vocational training, non-formal education and health care in which financial assistance by way of grant-in-aid is being provided by the Government of India, Ministry of Labor.
Under this scheme, three societies namely Old Home Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd Kohima, Senenuoko Child Labor Welfare Society, Kohima and Association for Tribal Welfare Development, Dimapur received grant-in-aid from the Government of India, Ministry of Labor. The objective of the Workmen’s Compensation Act is to impose an obligation upon the employers to pay compensation to workers for accidents arising out of, and in course of employment.
