Lack of infrastructure, manpower at government schools irks ZSTH

DIMAPUR, JULY 20 (MExN): The Zunheboto Sumi Totimi Hoho (ZSTH) has lamented over the lack of proper infrastructure and man-power at Government Higher Secondary School Zunheboto (GHSSZ) and Shovishe Memorial Government High School Zunheboto (SMGHSZ).

A press release issued by the ZSTH said a team led by its president Boholi H. Awomi visited the GHSSZ and SMGHSZ on July 19 and discovered that both the schools were lacking much behind in infrastructure and man-power.

At GHSSZ, there was shortage of classrooms for Secondary section while the science laboratory was lacking in equipments. Further there was only one Math teacher in the Secondary level and no MIL (Sutsah) teacher for the last many years. There is also shortage of PGT English, the press release stated.

At SMGHSZ, even after the upgradation of the school to the Secondary/High School level, nothing has been done for the school with the infrastructure in deplorable condition, the press release alleged. The visiting team found the classrooms to be very congested, accommodating students double its capacity while there were no proper classrooms for Classes 9 and 10.

There was also shortage of Math teacher and there was no MIL (Sutsah) teacher. The only English teacher was found to be transferred out from the school without a reliever. Further, the school had to deny admissions to many students due to lack of infrastructure and teachers, the press release stated.

In this connection, the ZSTH has appealed to the Government of Nagaland and the Department of School Education to look into the grievances of GHSSZ and SMGHSZ and do the needful both in infrastructure and in manpower so that these schools can do justice to students studying in the schools in particular and the people of Zunheboto in general.
