Landscape designer Made Wijaya gives lecture at RCEMPA

Jotsoma, April 7 (DIPR): The well known landscape designer from Bali Indonesia Made Wijaya who has been called the ‘Galliano of Gardens’ gave a vivid lecture on ‘The relevance of boutique/village hotels design for Nagaland’ on April 7 at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA) Jotsoma.  

While dwelling on the topic, he said that Bali and Nagaland have many similarities as far as the scope and potentialities of tourism are concerned. He also expressed his happiness to see the Naga villages which he described as very artistic and pleasant. He was inspired by the stone works of Khonoma village which has been preserved and protected over the ages.

  He further said Bhutan’s model of tourism was very applicable to Nagaland. Stressing on the importance of charm and hospitality vis-a-vis tourism, Bali has set the trend which the Nagas were not lacking behind, he added.  

Wijaya has been working in the hospitality industry as a design consultant for the last 40 years. Over the years, he has designed 1000 gardens in 25 countries and designed many boutique hotels, both luxury and budget around the world. He continues to be commissioned to design gardens around the world including the former palace gardens of the Nizam of Hyderabad in India and the Naples Botanic Garden in Florida. He often lectures on cultural tourism and the importance of cultural reference in design for the hospitality industry.  

Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, C. Apok Jamir who was the chairman of the programme gave a brief introduction of the programme and prospect of Tourism in Nagaland. Additional Director, Tourism, K.T. Thomas delivered the welcome address. President, Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) Vincent Belho proposed vote of thanks while Tatti Kro presented special number.
