Landslide at Kigwema continue to cause inconvenience

Our Correspondent Kigwema | August 16 A massive landslide that occurred in Kigwema village along the road connecting the Jakhama and Sakhabama army camps continue to cause a lot of inconveniences to travelers, neighboring villagers, farmers and students.

The landslide which occurred a few weeks ago has worsened due to inclement weather. Village authorities of Kigwema and youth leaders inspected the affected area on August 14 to survey the gravity of the landslide where it was found that the debris falling from the landslide at the Makhuma route was affecting the road below the village.

Village authorities further stated that the erosion on the road which cuts through the village was gradually sinking, making it impossible for medium and heavy passenger vehicles to ply. The road was completely cut off on Tuesday.

The road blockade has gravely affected farmers from neighbouring villages who regularly ply the route to transport their produce to sell in the local markets of Kohima.

Further, students of educational institutions in Kigwema and Mima villages have also been affected. The landslide was alerted to the District Disaster Management Authority; however sources mentioned that other than a site inspection, no other measures have been initiated yet.
