Morung Express News Deukwaram (Peren) | January 24 The first Peren District level volleyball tournament in memory of Late Haiziurangbe kick started here at Deukwaram Village, some 20 km from Jalukie town, with Masangum Hiekha, PS to Nagaland chief minister, TR Zeliang, as chief guest in the inaugural programme. Altogether 16 teams from different villages and towns under Peren district are taking part in the 5-day tournament, which will culminate on January 28. Addressing players and villagers from different villages, the chief guest reminded the sportspersons that the human body is like a machine. “If you (sportspersons) abuse your own body by indulging in intoxicants or wrong food habits, then you will be damaging your body and health and can no longer participate in games or sports,” he reminded. Masangum also said in sports and games, winning or losing doesn’t matter in the long run. “In the end what matters or count is whether you or your team has exhibited your talents and lived up to the sportsmanship spirit,” he said. Alluding to politics and current state of affairs in the State, the PS to the chief minister cautioned that as honest and sincere Naga citizens, one should never believe or succumb to rumours, which was destroying the very fabric of Naga society. “Ultimately the truth and what is right will prevail,” Masangum said. In the run up to the municipal ULB polls and the forthcoming general assembly election, Masangum also appealed to the villagers and electorate or Peren assembly seat to remain united so that they can march forward together.
