Dimapur, May 19 (MExN): Recognizing the critical role of law enforcement agencies in the HIV/AIDS response regard to key populations, Kripa Foundation Nagaland in partnership with FHI 360, NSACS and Nagaland Police will be organising a one day state level HIV/AIDS sensitization workshop with law enforcement officials on May 23 at Nagaland Police Head Quarter (PHQ) Kohima, Nagaland.
L.L. Doungel, Nagaland DGP (IPS) will be the Chief Guest Resource at the programme while Dr. Bitra George, Country Director FHI 360 New Delhi and Dr. M Kire Project Director NSACS will be the reousrces person. The Programme will be chaired by Dr. P Ngully, Chairman, Kripa Foundation Nagaland.
The program is support by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Govt. of USA through the “Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and FHI 360.
A press note from Kripa Foundation Director, Abou Mere informed that FHI 360 is implementing “Project Sunrise” in collaboration with National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) Govt. of India, State AIDS Control Societies (SACS), NGOs, community networks and other key stakeholders to support the ongoing efforts for effectively curbing the HIV epidemic through an accelerated response of prevention to care and treatment continuum services among People Who Inject Drugs (PWIDs) population in the eight states of the North East India.
“Effective and considered policing approaches are of vital importance in the response to HIV, therefore, the Project Sunrise aims to improve working relationship and collaboration with law enforcement in North East India,” it said.
For Nagaland State, it further said that the foundation in partnership with FHI 360 and NSACS will also organized district level workshops at Zunheboto, Wokha, Kiphire and Phek with the law enforcement officials.
