Stating that law faces new and previously unforeseen challenges, Parliamentary Secretary for Justice & Law, Er. Picto Shohe on Wednesday emphasized on academic scrutiny and challenge as an essential component in the development of law.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 38th Freshers’ Meet of Kohima Law College at Red Cross Complex held under the theme, “Re-thinking Law.”
Er. Picto stressed on the importance of rethinking and re-examining principles and percept that might have been long held imperative. In this connection, he pointed out that the Law Commission of India has proposed to scrap the archaic law of death penalty and to augment and ensure speedy disposal of criminal cases. He also reminded about the proposal of DNA profiling bill in the Parliament in view of the fact that DNA profiling has become imperative in today’s scenario of professional criminals.
To the freshers, Er. Picto advised them to seek God first as they enter a new threshold adding, “when you make God your priority, He will take care of the rest of your problems.”
He also lauded the management of the college for its dedication and perseverance in bringing the college thus far and appreciated its yeoman service.
The programme was marked with special songs and various acts presented by the students.
