Learn from past mistakes & embark on meaningful engagement: NPMHR

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): The Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has called upon the Government of India and the Naga people to “learn lessons from past mistakes and not repeat those failed experiences.”

NPMHR Secretary General, Neingulo Krome, said this while speaking at the 12th National Convention of National Alliances of Peoples Movements held at Puri, Odisha from November 23 to 25.

While listing out in detail the history of the Naga movement, the NPMHR president called upon all sections to work towards embarking on “new and meaningful engagements through mutual respect and understanding.”

“Over the last few weeks, negotiations over some of the unsettled competencies have resumed. Time will only tell what kind of conclusions will be arrived at. But whatever the case may be, Nagas are clear that until and unless due recognition and acknowledgement of our identity based on the unique history and situation is honored, to which the Government of India has also admitted and acknowledged in writing and signed on July 11, 2002, and re-iterated on the 3rd August 2015 – Framework Agreement, it will be futile to imagine a workable solution,” he added.
