Peren, October 9 (DIPR): Peren Forest Division celebrated wildlife week on October 7, under the theme ‘Learning, Loving and Living with Wildlife’ at Women Conference Hall, Jalukie town with Secretary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Imtienla, IFS, as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Imtienla said that plants and animals could live without human being but we cannot live without them. There are so many things to learn from nature, she added. She also encouraged Village Councils to take initiatives to protect and conserve wildlife in their respective jurisdiction by adopting stern resolutions.
Division Forest Officer, Dr. Sentitula, IFS, in her key note address, said in order to preserve the fauna the Indian Board of Wildlife (IBWL) decided to observe the Wildlife Week from October 2-8 every year. She called upon the young generation particularly students to come forward to protect and preserve wildlife.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Peren, Matsungshilu also delivered a short speech. Ao Baptist Church (Youth), Jalukie presented a choreography while, ‘Learn, Love and Live with Wildlife’ drama was performed by the students of COVSc & AH, Jalukie. Anen Ozukum chaired the programme while Assistant Conservator of Forest Akhibou, delivered the welcome address. Pastor, JTBC, Mongzung Mpom said the invocation prayer and Range Officer, Namsibo proposed the vote of thanks.
A poster making competition was also held where 15 schools participated. JNV, Jalukie got the 1st position while GHSS and Bariel Valley School, Jalukie were placed at 2nd and 3rd respectively. The programme was attended by Village Councils, church leaders and students.
