Dimapur, November 5 (MExN): A special lecture on ‘Career option in journalistic writing and its link with literature’ was conducted on November 5 at C-Edge College by Imlisanen Jamir, Associate Editor of The Morung Express


Held under the Department of English, the programme was initiated by Meyatemsu, Assistant Professor as the chairperson, which started with an icebreaking session, a press release from the College’s HoD of Management Studies, & IQAC Coordinator stated.


English Honors students of BA II, IV and VI semesters took part in the session. The speaker brought to light the condition of press in the mid 18th Century referring to authors such as Charles Dickens, George Orwell and Zola. Jamir also related the writing of “The Jungle” written by Ubton stressing on the condition of the poor workers of the meat industries of Chicago. 


Jamir stressed on the scope of English stream with career opportunities. He further highlighted the present condition of the society saying, “Language is used by those in power to confuse us” that journalism is the medium to break through those barriers, and how English literature students should act upon.


In this fast growing technology age, Jamir held that it was difficult to filter through what is true and what is not, asserting that for the said reason “we should be careful.”


The speaker also gave importance on the open opportunities of social media world and how to make use of it. 


He also encouraged the students to be “more sincere” and if they want, they can begin with write up, publish articles and also visit press medias to be more equipped in their writing skills.


The session included practical exercise where students made the most out of it.
