Kohima, February 2 (MExN): 3 (NH) Battalion Assam Rifles organized a lecture on hygiene and sanitization at Dainty Buds School in Kohima on January 30. The lecture, delivered by Deputy Commandant Ganesh Singh, covered methods of preventing human contact from the hazards of wastes to promote health, informed a press release from Assam Rifles. He explained that hazards can be physical, microbiological, biological biochemical agents of disease. “Wastes that can cause health problem are human and animal feces, solid wastes industrial wastes and agricultural wastes etc,” Singh added. Collection and treatment of waste was also discussed. The students were briefed about the importance of washing hands thoroughly before preparing or consuming food and before feeding children. They were also educated about use of ash as a substitute to soap in case of non availability of soap. Importance of safe source of drinking water and measures for home based water treatment, such as boiling, filtering of drinking water was also emphasized upon.
