
Wokha, March 1 (DIPR): Wokha District Legal Services Authority organized launching of Village legal care & support centre cum seminar on legal awareness at Longsa cultural hall, Longsa Village here on February 28.
Civil Judge Wokha, Puleto while speaking at the function informed the gathering that under Wokha district, five centres have been identified for opening legal care and support centre and Longsa is the first village to have the centre. He urged the villagers to avail the opportunity.
He also stated that para legal volunteers would be appointed to assist the panel advocates in giving services. The idea is to build up a strong work force of community based Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) from among the students, members of the social organizations, NGOs, women self help groups and professionals having good character with inclinations for social services to reach out to the people who have lesser facilities for access to justice, he explained.
The PLVs once appointed will be given training after which they will identify persons who require legal services and act as a bridge between such people and the legal services institutions as a medium for facilitating access to justice and for reaching out to the common people.
Resource persons for the seminar were Panel Advocate Oren Humtsoe, Limathung, Abeni Ngullie and Abemo Ngullie. The resource persons in brief spoke on topics like Motor Vehicle Act, Consumer Protection Act, Legal Aid, FIR and Right to Information.
Limathung also informed the gathering that Lok Adalat will be organised in the month of April 2014 and that all legal disputes pending in civil, criminal, revenue courts or tribunal can be taken to Lok Adalat for amicable settlement except personal cases which are non-compoundable. Legal dispute can be taken up and settled by Lok Adalats at pre-litigative stage also before the parties have entered into litigation by filing a case in the regular court.
