Legal counseling in Mon, Tuensang

Tuensang, July 26 (MExN): District Legal Services Authorities of Mon and Tuensang visited various homes and institutions in their respective districts on July 25. The visits were part of their activities to strengthen the institutional care, counseling and support service.  

The Secretaries of the two District Legal Services Authorities, Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers coordinated with the caretakers of various homes and jail authorities in the respective districts to ensure special care service and sensitized the inmates and children on basic rights. Monitoring and assessment were also done to ensure and provide legal assistance to the inmates, a press release informed.  

In Mon district, Phuleto, Judicial Magistrate first class and Secretary of Mon District Legal Services Authority along with Legal Aid Counsel and Assistant Public Prosecutor visited Mon district Jail, Observation Home, and John 3:16 specialized adoption center and orphanage. At the Adoption center, the team ensured that child friendly legal services were made visible. Later, an interactive session and counseling was conducted on the principle that every child has the right to be informed, right to be heard and to express views and concerns freely, the release stated.  

Meanwhile, the under trials prisoners in the District Jail were sensitized on various rights and free legal aid provisions. The inmates were also informed about the available legal aid counseling and legal assistance under the Legal Services Schemes which is provided free of cost to those under trials prisoners and convicts whose annual income is less than Rs 1 lakh per year.

Tuensang District Legal Services Authority also visited shelter home and orphanage center led by N. Kano, Civil Judge and Secretary of Tuensang District Legal Services Authority. The team visited the homes with an aim to provide early intervention, support and counseling as well as promote child friendly services and welfare for the child inmates. This was followed by an interactive session with the management, caretaker and the children. The team also distributed stationery and food items to the children on the principle that every child has the right to be treated with dignity and compassion and it is worth every effort for the child to be respected and protected.
