Longleng, May 9 (MExN): The Phase-II Go Green Initiative Program a collaborative effort of LEMSACHENLOK and Tata Motors Ltd was launched at Pholok, Sanglu village under Longleng district on May 7.

Since 2024, LEMSACHENLOK has partnered with Tata Motors Ltd to launch a plantation initiative aimed at promoting community-based income generation. This year, the project will involve 12 local communities.

The programme on Wednesday was launched by W Manpai Phom (NCS), Deputy Commissioner Longleng, in the presence of Yanger (NPS), Superintendent of Police (SP) Longleng.

In his address, the DC Longleng expressed best wishes to Team LEMSACHENLOK for their Go-Green initiatives in targeting to plant some 10 lakh saplings during the Phase-II plantation drive with 12 communities spread over 2 to 3 districts.

“In recent years, people have realised the importance of planting trees, but it takes lots of effort for its sustenance and maintenance,” Phom noted. He urged the community members to have the sense of ownership and to understand the main purpose of planting trees. He said that the endeavour of LEMSACHENLOK towards Biodiversity Conservation is a very practical and scientific approach and these interventions are very noble which all must learn.

“The district is so fortunate to have a society working towards the welfare of the people and considering the radical approach towards biodiversity conservation with deeper intervention of improving the eco system, the district will provide full cooperation and support towards the society,” the DC asserted.

The SP Longleng in his speech said that people who plant trees are contributing globally. Despite the various challenges they might face during and after plantation, he urged the team to never give up and continue with their noble work. He also assured full cooperation and support towards this venture.

Dr Y Nuklu Phom, Chairman and Team Leader of LEMSACHENLOK shared that for some time the term “conservation” has been perceived as reserving a forest and banning hunting. Focused on this, some continue to organise awareness programs, seminars, workshops and even organize some mega programs. While, these activities cannot be ignored, conservation today has larger embedded obligation.

“While these initiatives are conducted by many organisations, our climate is becoming worse threatening human existence. Our Ecosphere is not getting better, our orchards are invaded by alien pest and insects, our productions are going low, our ancestral ponds and wells are getting dried, and we continue to struggle with many new diseases,” he added.

Dr Nuklu observed that these are some very alarming issues people have been facing and based on these alarming threats we at LEMSACHENLOK decided to take up Micro steps to address the core threats toward Biodiversity Conservation by diagnosing the threat and usher prescriptive and preventive measures.

LEMSACHENLOK’s endeavour towards Biodiversity Conservation is cradled around identifying resources and resource mapping, preparing management plans, camera trapping exercise, preparing people’s biodiversity register, development of digitalized portal  exercises, developing land use policies with improved, innovative, integrated, scientific and sustainable livelihoods for communities, create landscape peace corridors and trans-border biodiversity corridors to fashion augmented and improved ecosphere for harmonious coexistence.

LEMSACHENLOK have been focusing on regeneration of fallow lands in collaboration with different partners aiming to integrate ecological balance with sustainable community development. For its ‘Redeeming Eden’ venture under ‘MissioEcology’ with advises from their consultants, LEMSACHENLOK selected 26 species and under this movement, 6-7 plant species are strictly planted.
