Leprosy case detection campaign held in Dimapur

Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): Training on Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) for Medical Officers under CMO Dimapur was held at CMO’s Conference Hall on September 6.
During the inaugural program, Dr Heto Swu, Zonal Leprosy Officer (ZLO) Dimapur said that the LCDC would be carried for a week during which the field workers will carry out activities to report suspected leprosy case for confirmation.
As per a press release from Zonal Leprosy Officer, Dimapur, Dr Ahu Sekhose, State Leprosy Officer, Nagaland said that LCDC will be conducted in 50 districts across the country where the Grade-2 disability is more than 3%.
Currently 60% of the global leprosy cases are in India, therefore, LCDC is an elaborated campaign formulated by experts to carry out extensive exercise to generate suspected cases which are mostly hidden cases, Dr Sekhose said.
The campaign aimed to create awareness, reduce the stigma associated with leprosy, and hope to eradicate the disease. The campaign will be carried out under the slogan “To Suspect and Report.” The field workers will identify suspected leprosy cases and report for confirmation by Medical officers.
Dr K Vikato Kinimi, CMO Dimapur said that early detection can cure Leprosy, and thus emphasised on developing a comprehensive Micro-plan to ensure that all areas of the district are covered.
The training was divided in two sessions. During the first session Dr SK Dey, Consultant NLEP Nagaland highlighted on Leprosy and its effects.
He also oriented the MOs on the diagnosis and classifications of Leprosy cases. Dr Swu oriented the trainees on Micro-planning and program implementation of the campaign activities.
