‘Let law take its own course’

DIMAPUR, Sept 15 (MExN): Following the condemnation statement issued by Rengma Hoho with regard to the murder of Joseph Seb, the Yimchungru Akheru Arihako (YSU) has appealed to Rengma Hoho “not to rush to the media without knowing the proper ground realities of the incident which will only hurt the sentiment of both communities.”

YAA Vice-President T Asoba in a release stated that they did not remain silent spectators on hearing of the incident and took the matter very seriously. He added that they wanted to bring out the clear picture before giving their voice. “As our investigation was based on the clarification given by the Huker Village Council in the daily papers on September 11 and spot verification we feel that the question of involvement (of the) tribal Hoho does not arise,” the YAA stated in a release. It stated that the complaint given by Late Joseph’s wife on August 25 that her minor sister, a 9-year old, was raped by her husband, medical tests examined in Tuensang confirmed the rape, the YAA reported.

It also stated that Late Joseph assaulted Village Guard (VG) personnel on duty and later took away the service rifle and fired a round at the shop before running away and absconding for three days. In this connection 187 VG personal were deployed in the operation from August 26 leading to the unfortunate incident on the third day about 16km away from Huker Village, the YAA stated. The YAA has therefore appealed to the Rengma Hoho to allow the law to take its own course of action ‘in the interest of both the parties.’
