‘Let peace prevail’

Rev Fr OC Abraham conferred Peace Channel’s Peace Award 2021

Dimapur, September 21 (MExN): Peace Channel celebrated the 14th Peace Knit Fest–cum-Peace Channel Foundation Day in collaboration with North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) and North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) at DBIDL Hall, Dimapur on September 21. 

Rev Fr Rev Fr OC Abraham was conferred the Peace Channel’s Peace Award 2021 for his commendable contributions in creating sustainable livelihood, uplifting the less economically favoured sections of the people, and in making differences in the lives of the children and families in Nagaland. Through his priesthood and iconic lifestyle, he has inspired many people as a missionary priest, an educationist and a social worker, stated a press release. 

Rev Fr O C Abraham in his acceptance speech said, “One should selflessly help the poor and needy and as a follower of Christ, one should be like Christ willing to help others.” He also wished to see young minds come together and work for the welfare of the society especially for the poor and for their rights. He appealed the communities to love and forgive one another and let peace prevail in all the places we live. 

Munesh (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone II Dimapur and Etsungmomo Kikon, President of Naga Council Dimapur addrseed the occasion as the special guest and the guest of honour respectively. Delivering the welcome note, Director Peace Channel and Principal NEISSR, Dr Fr CP Anto, said that the 2021 theme for International Day of Peace is ‘Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.’ 

A panel discussion on religious perspectives on ‘role of religious organizations in promoting peace and harmony’ was also held. Fr Chacko Karinthayil, Director of Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Dimapur moderated the discussion. Rev Moses Murry, Convenor of Christian Forum, Ajay Sethi, Coordinator and member of Peace Forum and Jain Samaj, Dimapur; Alok Pareek, member Hindu Samaj, Dimapur; and Ahidur Rehman, working President of Muslim Council and Former Peace Awardee, Dimapur shared their perspectives on “the Role of Religious Organizations in Promoting Peace and Harmony”. In the panel session, perspective of different religious organizations was shared to facilitate harmonious coexistence among different tribes and communities.

The program was moderated by Vitono Haralu, Trainer of Peace Channel and started with Ng Alan Paul Mathingso, Project Coordinator; Peace Channel led the reading from different scriptures. The programme was graced with the lightning of the lamp by special guest along with the religious leaders, which was followed by a special number from NEISSR Peace and Conflict students.
