‘Let people judge whether I should step down’

Home Minister blasts back

DIMAPUR, JULY 26 (MExN): NPF Leader and Home Minister Thenucho has responded to the series of allegations leveled against him by V Lasuh, ex-Congress candidate which appeared in the local newspapers during the past few days.

“I am constrained to issue this press release since the said writer Shri. V. Lasuh has even alleged that I am afraid to issue Press releases on my own. I also take it as an opportunity to clarify the confusions that might have been created in the minds of the people”, Thenucho stated.

Pointing out that in the first place, Mr. V. Lasuh was never a member of the high-level delegation of Cabinet Ministers which met leaders of the Government of India, Thenucho stated that it was audacious on the part of Lasuh to make such false and wild allegations as if he was himself present during the meetings.

“The Naga public may judge the truth and the veracity of the press release of Mr V. Lasuh on this fact. His report is either a pure figment of his imagination or that he may have been carried away by the concoctions of his informers who are trying to mislead the Naga public with half-fed and distorted facts out of malicious political intentions. Being a public leader he should refrain from such antics if he is to take his politics seriously”, Thenucho stated.

Regarding the charges made on the Home Minister’s responsibilities, efficiency and the discharge of duties raised by V. Lasuh, the matter is left to the people who are the best judges to decide. The people may compare the law and order situation of Nagaland today with what had been existing in the past. The daily incidence of shooting, looting, killing, extortions, robbery and a life of threat and intimidations that was the order of the day and even reflected in the speeches of the former Governor O.P.Sharma are fresh in the minds of the people, Thenucho maintained.

“We in the DAN government take pride that today the situation in Nagaland is much improved than the days when Shri V.Lasuh’s party was in power. The issue therefore of whether I should step down or not is for the people to judge”.

Thenucho also put on record by reproducing a copy of the Memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister of India by the DAN Delegation from Nagaland at New Delhi on 17th May, 2006, which will speak for itself, he stated.

“Having revealed everything in an open and transparent manner, as we have nothing to hide form the people, I hope that every responsible leader and fellow citizens will understand my submission in its right perspective and join the State Government of Nagaland to help resolve the various problems that confront us and so that we can build a better future for our children”, Thenucho stated.
