Lions Club Dimapur on Friday organized ‘50K COVID-19 Vaccination’, a celebratory program to mark successful administration of COVID-19 vaccination to 50,000 citizens at the Lions Club vaccination centre over the past nine months.
Lions Club Dimapur president, Lion Vikas Maheshwari in his introductory address said the COVID-19 vaccination project at Lions Club started since last year and in the span of nine months, 50,000 citizens had been vaccinated.
The club president said the response from the public was equally prompt as on some days 500-600 citizens turn up to get themselves vaccinated.
Maheshwari thanked the district administration and police for ensuring smooth conduct of the vaccination drive. He especially thanked the Medical department for deputing a doctor and nurses along with logistics support to Lions Club.
Project chairperson of the Lions Club COVID-19 vaccination project, Lion PK Jain, termed the successful vaccination of 50,000 people as an “incredible milestone” and reiterated that the club was committed to its motto ‘We Serve.’
District immunization officer, Dr. Rebecca Zhimomi, who also graced the celebratory programme said Lions Club Dimapur had indeed achieved a milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination project.
Dr Rebecca acknowledged the role of Lions Club in actively partnering with the Medical department in the latter’s public healthcare campaigns. She said the club had assisted the Medical department health and immunization campaigns including the universal immunization campaign, pulse polio immunization, measles rubella vaccination and the latest COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
Informing that as of Thursday last, 5 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered in Dimapur district, the DIO said the Medical department would look forward to cooperation and support of Lions Club even in the future.
On the occasion, five healthcare volunteers employed by Lions Club Dimapur were felicitated for their untiring and selfless services rendered in the ongoing vaccination drive. The five volunteers are Newmai, Prabin Das, Nilomoni Das, Rinku Roy and Eshak.
Lion Rohit Jain chaired the celebratory programme.
