The Litter-Free Nagaland campaign was officially launched in Kohima, marking the beginning of an environmental movement aimed at promoting a cleaner and greener state. The initiative, led by the PET Packaging Association for Clean Environment (PACE), in collaboration with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), is being implemented by Lakshya and Eco-Warriors Nagaland.

Over the course of three days, a series of events were organised to raise awareness on waste management, sustainable practices, and the importance of reducing litter. The campaign kicked off on January 27 with an inaugural event at the Nagaland State Transport (NST) terminal in Kohima, where T Lanusenla Longkumer, CEO of KMC, officially launched the campaign. Her participation set a positive tone for the movement, which attracted over 150 participants, including students, local citizens, commuters, and visitors. The attendees took part in a signature campaign, pledging to reduce waste, promote recycling, and adopt better plastic management practices.

On January 28 a community-driven event was held at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Kohima. This initiative focused on educating drivers and passengers about the importance of responsible waste disposal and sustainability. Volunteers distributed stickers with messages such as “Stop Littering”, “Encourage Recycling”, and “Keep the City Clean” on vehicles, helping to spread the message to a wider audience. A total of 160 people participated in this awareness drive.

The second phase of the event saw another signature campaign, where over 120 individuals pledged to uphold responsible waste management practices and commit to recycling and sustainability. The event successfully highlighted the collective responsibility of citizens in maintaining a clean environment.

A capacity-building session for KMC municipal staff was held on 29 January, focusing on effective plastic waste management strategies. The training aimed to equip KMC personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement sustainable waste disposal and recycling practices within the city.

The Litter-Free Nagaland campaign, supported by PACE, KMC, and NPCB, marks an important step towards achieving environmental sustainability in Nagaland.
