An awareness programme on consumer protection was organised by the Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP) Department, Zunheboto and Green Club Zunheboto at the Youth Hall on May 8.
Advocate Tovi Z Yeptho, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, served as the resource person. He spoke on various aspects of consumer rights, grievance redressal mechanisms, and the procedure for filing consumer complaints. Emphasising the importance of consumer awareness, he stated, “Everyone is a consumer in one way or another. A consumer is anyone who purchases goods or services for personal use.”
He urged the participants to raise complaints whenever necessary, highlighting that MRP stands for Maximum Retail Price—not Minimum Retail Price. Consumers, he noted, have the right to file complaints through a simple application if they are overcharged or receive damaged or substandard products.
Advocate Yeptho encouraged attendees to be aware of their rights and to stand against unfair trade practices.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Tavinto K. Sümi, President of Green Club Zunheboto. The keynote address was delivered by Khevishe Zhimo, Assistant Controller, LMCP.
The organisers extended their gratitude to MLA and Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies and LM &CP, K.T. Sukhalu, for his deep concern and wholehearted support in promoting awareness of consumer rights and protection in the district.
The event was attended by town councillors, GBs, and colony council members from various wards of Zunheboto.
