Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): ACAUT Nagaland today informed that it will be drafting the points on Lokayukta to be submitted to the drafting sub-committee on Lokayukta and till such time it has put on hold the public resolution for all Nagaland agitation.
“While the ACAUT Nagaland is all out working with sense of urgency for implementation of the Lokayukta Bill at the earliest, the Govt. of Nagaland is reminded not to play dilly-delaying tactics in the implementation of the Lokayukta Bill,” stated a press release from ACAUT Nagaland Media Cell. Further, ACAUT reminded the Government of Nagaland to immediately terminate those backdoor appointments made post June 6, 2016.
The release informed that ACAUT Nagaland in a meeting with the Standing Committee on the formation of Lokayukta held on September 26 raised concerns on the powers and functions of Lokayukta and maintained that for the Lokayukta to be effective in tackling the systemic and pervasive corruption, it needs to have an investigative wing, prosecution wing, and provision to take up cases suo-motu.
Held at the Secretariat Assembly in Kohima, the meeting was chaired by Er. Levi Rengma, Parliamentary Secretary for Housing.
ACAUT members in the meeting also made it clear that the Lokayukta cannot be accepted unless the prior sanction of the appropriate authority clause is removed. Thus, the sub-committee for drafting of the Lokayukta decided to have a next round of meeting on October 7 and iron out the concerns, the release added.
