Lokayukta urgently needed in Nagaland says NVCO

Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) today stated that Lokayukta is “urgently needed” in Nagaland “to check corruption and to curb the menace of corruption”.  

In a statement, the Press & Media Cell, NVCO pointed out that the establishment of the institution of Lokayukta in the state is to provide clean, transparent, and accountable Government of the people.  

Lokayukta, it stated, is the “anti-corruption ombudsman” and is one of the most powerful institutes in the country.

Pointing out some of the corrupt practices prevailing in Nagaland viz., abuse of power, nepotism, favoritism, extortion, bribery, embezzlement, and fraud, the NVCO maintained that Lokayukta is a great check on corruption, to bring about transparency in the system, and to make state administrative machinery citizen friendly.  

Considered as a watchdog, Lokayukta pinpoints wrongdoings of the administration, looks into complaints of people, and suggest measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Government.
