Longleng, November 16 (MExN): Longleng district observed the 66th All India Cooperative Week at the Bhumnyu village council hall, Bhumnyu village in Longleng district on November 15 with the theme "Role of cooperatives in New India.”
Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS) Longleng I Chume Chang in his keynote address advocated for cooperation from the registered societies towards the department for the economic growth of the state and their livelihood.
Chang said the cooperative societies were an important department in the state because it deals with the grassroots level and towards the upliftment of the economy of the farmers and self help groups.
The ARCS stated that the participating societies and all those involved was a voluntary service and that it was imperative to work with cooperation. He reminded them that just because they have registered as a society, their job was not over and that their target should not be to only avail loan/subsidy.
"Registering as a society and maintaining the society is for long term unless your society is cancelled and to sustain the society depends on you through your commitment," Chang pointed out while encouraging them that the society can be continued as hereditary if they are honest and committed towards their registered society.
Inspector Cooperative Societies (ICS) Lipoktangit Ozukum addressing on "the advent of cooperative societies" expounded that "through a century of various committee reports and multiple cooperative legislations to deal with various aspects of cooperatives in the country, beginning with colonial times in the late 19th century and through the 20th century of pre independence and post independence government, the state in the country played a major role in the promotion and sponsorship of cooperatives. In recent years however changing global contexts have forced the state to reposition itself with regard to cooperatives".
Also Ozukum explained to the participants on the seven principles of cooperative-voluntary and open membership; democratic member control; member economic participation; autonomy and independence; education, training and information; cooperation among cooperatives; and concern for community.
In the short speech delivered by the Bhumnyu Village Council chairman Ongpa and Phokchi Farming Cooperative Societies Ltd S Angam, Angam lauded the Longleng district cooperative societies department for relentlessly working towards the growth of the registered societies.
Angam reminded the various registered societies to also run their societies not with the target to avail loans which will only tarnish their image and the district but to be committed with the goal that they have set while registering the society. He further expressed optimism that the department will continue with the same effort and guide them.
