Lotha Students’ Union hosts 2nd inter-district cultural fest

The two-day 2nd inter-district cultural fest organised by Lotha Students’ Union under the theme “Balancing cultural growth with modern civilization” commenced at the Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha on October 4. The inaugural event featured Dr Chumben Murry, Advisor to the Chief Minister, as the special guest.

In his address, Dr Murry underscored that culture transcends traditional attire, encompassing the behaviours that define us. He expressed regret for neglecting of cultural significance in the past and urged attendees to appreciate and preserve their heritage. He commended the students for their active participation and interest in cultural activities at a young age.

Dr. Murry highlighted the need to balance modern traditions with the preservation of longstanding customs, pointing out the importance of customary laws. He noted the confusion often encountered between judicial and customary law, advocating for legal practitioners to hold a minimum diploma in customary law to strengthen its application.

The District Cultural Officer of Wokha, the theme speaker for the event, emphasised the importance of cultural awareness and engagement among the youth.

Y Vungthungo Lotha, Senior Principal of GHSS Wokha, welcomed participants, while Pretty Petals School from Chukitong captivated the audience with a lively folk dance.

The event was chaired by Khonzani Tsanglao, PGT GHSS Wokha, with the invocation led by Bikhamo Yanthan, Pastor of Humtso Baptist Church.

A total of 16 educational institutions from Wokha participated, engaging in competitions that included exhibitions, folk dances, yodelling, painting, essay writing, knitting, and bamboo walking.
