LVC appeals for release of ‘abducted’ members

Peren, March 9 (MExN): Two members of the Lamhainamdi Village under Peren district and an auto rickshaw driver were reportedly abducted by functionaries of the GPRN/NSCN on March 2.

According to a press release from the Lamhainamdi Village Council (LVC), two members of the village had hired an auto to Lamhainamdi village for clearing their plot. However, without any provocation, they were charged with ‘stealing of wood’ and taken to Khehoi camp, the release informed.

Even after verbal assurance through the intervention of Civil Societies, the victims have not been released yet, the Council added.

Condemning the ‘unlawful activity’, the LVC said that it is unbecoming on the part of a National Political Group to throw false allegation on innocent villagers and hold them captive at their camp without any justification.

The village council regretted that the incident has “demeaned the stature of the group.”

In this regard, the LVC appealed the GPRN/NSCN to release the three innocent villagers without any condition in order to prevent any further misunderstanding in the future.

It also called on all right-thinking citizens of the State to condemn such high handedness by any national political group “which is not of national interest.”

The Council also questioned the silence of the State Government on the matter and alleged that even after repeated complaints and FIRs, the State machineries “never responded nor exercised their responsibility to ensure safety for the public.”

The government will be held responsible for any untoward incident happening in relation to the matter, it cautioned.
