‘Made in Ukhrul’ masks launched

Ukhrul, May 3 (MExN): Deputy Commisioner of Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamson and Superintendent of Police, Worngam Ningshen officially launched the ‘Made in Ukhrul’ masks today at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul in the presence of MLA Alfred Kanngam Arthur. 


According to a press release, the washable and more durable mask is the brainchild of MLA Alfred Kanngam Arthur. Around 2200 masks were distributed to the various localities of Hunphun and Hungpung for immediate free distribution to elderly people, it said. 


Joseph Pauline Kamson stated that through the initiative was the first of its kind in Manipur and lauded the designer, tailors and everyone who have contributed in making this a success. “Let us not be complacent or arrogant but let us all be vigilant so that we win the war against COVID-19,” he stated.


He also expressed gratitude to MLAs of 44-Ukhrul and 45-Chingai for the support extended to District Administration since the beginning of lockdown through ideas and resources. He added that they have act as a conduit between District Administration and State Government. 


SP Ukhrul Worngam Ningshen expressed gratitude to the MLAs of Chingai and Ukhrul for extending all possible help in all fronts. He thanked the local MLAs for their support and assistance in maintaining law and order in Ukhrul District. He also extended gratitude to various organisations, tangs and churches for the tea and snacks offered during duty and vegetables for the police kitchen. 


Alfred Kanngam Arthur appealed the Hunphun and Hungpung village to give utmost cooperation to District Administration in enforcing strict discipline and guidelines to combat the pandemic. “Our sisters, brothers and friends will be coming home soon.  They cannot be thrown out, so let us follow the guidelines and conditions given by the District Administration,” he added. 


The mask was designed by Rinshang Pheiray of Hillsmen. The Hillsmen and Career Path Finders and local tailors have contributed in the mass production of mask. The said mask will be made available at Rs. 20 per piece, the release stated.
