Police on Saturday foiled a bid to storm the Manipur Chief Minister’s Secretariat by a large number of cop aspirants demanding completion of the recruitment processes.

The Manipur government had conducted the recruitment rallies for appointment of riflemen and jemadars for establishment of 10th and 11th Indian Reserve Battalions way back in 2018. The viva-voce for the recruitment of riflemen had already been completed while that of jemadars remained suspended till date after the completion of the written test. Candidates who appeared in the recruitment rallies are pressing the state government to complete the recruitment processes for the last around one year, with no response from the government. Failing to get a positive response to their demands, a large number of cop aspirants today converged near the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal. However, with additional force, the police on duty in the area prevented them from storming the secretariat. They pushed back the protesters up to TG Higher Secondary School after a brief tussle.

Top officials of the state police who rushed to the spot convinced the cop aspirants to leave the place, citing that the area is within the security zone. The cop aspirants, however, insisted to allow some of them to proceed and submit a memorandum to the chief minister who is also in-charge of the state Home department.

The cop aspirants launched today’s agitation under the aegis of All Manipur 10th and 11th Vice-Voce Completed IRB Rifleman and Written Completed Jemadar Candidates, 2019’.

Talking to reporters, a leader of the protesters alleged that they launched the protest as they were helpless when the chief minister did not give them an appointment to meet him despite repeated requests. He also said that they have sought the chief minister’s appointment 16 times in recent times. Moreover, some candidates had approached the chief minister through the recently opened “CM Da Haisi” platform. But, no positive response has been received from the concerned authority till date, he alleged. “In such conditions, we are confused as to whom we are going to approach,” he said. He further said that the recruitment processes which were started more than three years ago are yet to be completed till date.

Later, the cop aspirants under the aegis of ‘All Manipur 10th and 11th Viva-Voce Completed IRB Rifleman and Written Completed Jemadar Candidates, 2019’ submitted a memorandum to the chief minister. In the memorandum, they set an October 27 deadline to declare the results of the riflemen appointment and notification for conduct of viva-voce for the jemadar appointment.
