As the Left parties allege that the budget ravages livelihoods of the people and pushes them into deeper distress, the Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) held a protest meeting against the Union Budget 2020-21 on Sunday.
The protest meeting which was held at Imphal Irawat Bhavan was part of the Left parties’ countrywide protest against the “anti-people budget.”
Speaking at the protest meeting, CPI Manipur State Council secretary, L Sotinkumar alleged that the budget 2020-21 consisted of several anti-people policies.
He said that the budget will invite economic crisis which will cause hardships to the common people and alleged that the Union Budget is for the upliftment of the rich section of the society and corporate houses close to the ruling BJP.
He then pointed out that there is a sharp reduction in the subsidy given to food, and that the budget allocations to health, agriculture, urban development, MGNREGA, social welfare, ST and SC have been cut down in terms of thousands of crores of rupees.
"The government’s target of increasing GDP growth by 10% will not be realised. It is only an imagination", the CPI leader said.
The CPI leader further alleged that since the BJP government led by Narendra Modi came to power in the country, various policies against the working class people have been implemented.
