Manipur Forest Minister impound ‘illegal’ timber

Newmai News Network Imphal |September 9   Three trucks carrying timber were 'seized' by the Manipur Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar today. According to an official source, the timber was being "illegally" transported along the Ukhrul-Jessami Road in Ukhrul district.   Minister Th Shyamkumar intercepted three trucks on the way to Kharasom. As per the source, the trucks had “no transit pass” and were made to pay the “necessary tax and take the transit pass.” Vehicles flouting traffic rules were also advised to strictly follow traffic guidelines.   Shyamkumar later inspected trees planted during the Vanamohatsava this year at the New Canal village. Minister Shyamkumar had stated that starting September, he will personally inspect trees planted during Vanamohatsava 2017 by the Forest Department, NGOs and other organisations.
